1.2 Functions & Tools

If you're a student looking to build a notion template to help you stay organized and on top of your studies, there are several essential functions that you should consider using. These functions include:

  1. Linked Database: A linked database is a collection of related information that can be accessed and manipulated in different ways. When you create a linked database in Notion, you can link it to other databases or pages in your workspace. This allows you to include synced copies of the same content across different pages, making it easier to keep your data organized and up-to-date.

  2. Relation Property: This tool allows you to link related information within a single database. For example, you might create a database of all your assignments, and use the relation property to link each assignment to the course it's for. The relation property is a powerful tool because it allows you to easily see how different pieces of information are related to each other. For example, you could create a view that shows all the assignments for a particular course, or all the courses that have a particular assignment due.

  3. Filter Views: Filter views allow you to create custom views of your data based on specific criteria. For example, you might create a filter view that shows all the tasks with a status of "in progress" or all the tasks due in the next week.

  4. Roll-Ups: Roll-ups are a powerful tool for summarizing information across different databases. For example, you might use a roll-up to show the total number of assignments you have due this week, or the average grade for all the assignments in a particular course. The great thing about roll-ups is that they allow you to easily summarize information without having to manually calculate it yourself.

  5. Notion Integrations: Notion integrations allow you to connect Notion to other apps and services, such as Google Calendar, Trello, or Evernote. By integrating Notion with other apps, you can create a seamless workflow that allows you to easily manage all your tasks and assignments in one place.

🚨 Although I will explain step-by-step how to use these functions, if you are not familiar with them and have just downloaded Notion I highly suggest you consult the Notion Help Center or watch some video tutorials on YouTube. You can check out the following video tutorials:
